APG Nature Conservation Conference 2024
Focus on climate change, nature conservation and grid development
Symposium brings together experts from many specialist areas
As part of habitat management, APG specialists have been working closely with numerous experts for more than 25 years to make the area around power lines a favourite place for plants and animals to live. APG has been organising regular nature conservation conferences since 2016 to promote this overarching cooperation and the exchange of information between technology and nature.
The sixth nature conservation conference took place in 2024: This time from 4 to 5 June, in Carinthia, Treffen /Ossiacher See.
Around 100 national and international experts took part in the nature conservation conference in Carinthia to discuss the protection of endangered animals. The main topic was network development in the context of climate change and nature conservation.Topics such as the EU Taxonomy Regulation, climate change and the forest, biodiversity and the effect of line markings as a bird protection measure were also discussed.
In addition to the symposium, a guided excursion to the Carinthian nature reserve was organised on both days.On the first day, the participants explored an APG power line that leads into the Gailtal natural area, where, for example, pylon bases (the base of the electricity pylons) were visited that had been renaturalised with hedges. Hedges like these serve as resting places for birds and small game. The second day was spent at the APG transformer station in Villach, where site-appropriate turf and gravel lawns were on display. Over 70 species of rare plants, insects and birds can already be found here.
